Decided to spend my birthday weekend in our old neighborhood in Union, Missouri – Short drive out to our old stomping grounds – we had a beautiful house on a cliff that overlooked the Bourbouse River.
Stopped at MotorhomeRVStore in Eureka, Missouri – friend of mine started a motorhome repair business – you know all the headaches that happen when trying to get something fixed and you live in your coach. He has promised to make life easier.
Arrived at Pin Oak Creek RV Park about 11 AM – early bird gets the worm. Nice treed park with gravel roads and gravel level sites with lots of space – seems to be a variety of things to do – pool, lake, paint ball, mini golf and more.
Took a road trip to our old neighborhood – not a lot of neighbors as we all had 25 acre lots. Alan and Carla were home and we had a chance to visit – not a lot of changes in the area.
Did get to see our old house and see the view over the river – awesome! New owner doesn’t spend as much time on yardwork as I did (he has a 3 year old) and the weeds are taking over.
Stopped at Pointe Labaddie Brewery in Gray Summit – nice set up and good beer.
Friday the weather is still hot – supposed to hit 92 – I’m dying!
We took off for Defiance and Augusta to visit wineries – stopped at Chandler Hill = great
– then Yellow Farm House (one of our favorites) but it is closed and up for sale – then Augusta Winery (another favorite) and enjoyed a partial bottle and then over to Mt. Pleasant and did a tasting (cheaper than a glass and more wine plus we got another souvenir glass which we don’t need.
Ended up at Augusta Brewing Company and had brats and beers – not as good as we remember.
Saturday went to the City of Union’s Founders Day Breakfast. Only recognized one person – not many people there.
In the afternoon – it is still very hot and humid – we went into Labadie to their picnic. Watched the parade.
And I never saw one person I remember working with years ago – I guess the neighborhood is changing. We did get to eat at the Hawthorne which was always a favorite.
Sunday we attended worship at our old church (still members there) in the area and it was fun seeing friends that we haven’t seen in years – good worship and visits.
Since today is my birthday I got to plan my day. We headed for New Haven and visited two wineries and a brewery.
Then since we were so close we continued on to Hermann and visited a winery, brewery and distillery. We wanted to visit our favorite art gallery but they are closed and it is now an Antique Store – times are a changing.
Dinner on the Missouri River and home again – home again.
Monday we are off to Belleville, Illinois.
